Does this sound familiar to you?

In today’s society it is hard to find anything that is unique and new. On Reddit they call this reposting, in the real world we called it old news, and in the music world we call it remixing. It’s hard to release something completely new to the world with so much similar content out there so many have taken to the art of remixing. Particularly in music, people sample others works and remake it into something similar or completely different.

In the world of the internet we have remixing that you may not even realise. Memes are sued almost everywhere and if you don’t know what a meme is, please read this. Although we may not see it, memes are a form of remixing. By taking the original image that someone has used and using it in the same manner is remixing their original work. Some examples of this are Advice Mallard, where people write some life, school, work, etc. advice on top of this picture of a duck, or Confession Bear, a picture used for confessing things which in the past has included murder. In music a lot of current musicians rely on sampling and remixing other peoples works. People bring a new light on a certain work by remixing it with new sounds or sampling others works. A great recent example of remixing is the movie Pitch Perfect. In this clip you see them combining different songs to make something new and bringing a new light to all the songs. Skrillex uses a lot of sampling and remixing in his songs and has become world famous by this. A great example that I personally like is his song Reptile which uses sound clips from the Street Fighter series.

With remixing the songs of yesteryear that have left our minds come back to mind. Even Black Eyed Peas used Time of My Life in their songs and brought new life to it. With Google Glass the possibilities are endless. People will be able to collect videos and images through Glass and remix them into all new forms of media. Remixing may seem like stealing and unoriginal but its how you use what you have that makes it interesting.
